Supreme Court in Cardiff
Kearns paralegal, Bethan Hill (who is CILEx Cardiff and South East Wales Brightlink Learning Level 6 Student of the Year 2019), was selected to attend a special lecture and reception hosted by Legal Wales and Welsh Legal History Society. The event was to celebrate the historic handing down of 3 judgments by the Supreme Court in The Senedd for the first time. This is only the third time on which the Supreme Court, which is the highest Court in the United Kingdom, has sat outside of London.
Attendees heard a lecture from Dr Sara Elin Roberts who spoke about Hywel Dda and the Welsh Laws, with a particularly interesting focus on the Welsh Law of Women, especially relevant since 2019 marks 100 years of Women in the Law. Guests to the event included some of the Supreme Court panel and Bethan was pleased to have the opportunity to meet and speak to the Supreme Court President, Lady Hale.
Everyone at Kearns is looking forward to reading the first handed down Supreme Court judgments given in Wales.
